The Darling Buds of May are a fresh, Perth-based quintet specialising in 1920s Dixieland jazz and 1940s and ’50s swing. They are primarily a swingin' dance band, versatile and charismatic. It’s said they swing like a gate in a storm. The band is vocalist Jessie Gordon, Dom D'Leno (percussion), plus bass, sax, guitar and keyboard. You just might see some super swing dancers, too.

From the writer of the successful Club Gargouille series, George White, comes a very funny play about Aussie guys - their search for identity, their relationships with each other, girls and authority.

Four male university students rent a house in the suburbs. Their search for a fifth housemate to help offset the cost of renting leads them to Vincent, a childhood friend of one of them. Vincent's arrival brings a period of upheaval and chaos to this laidback, rather indifferent male environment. He questions their various definitions of manhood and associated behaviour and convinces them to put their theories to the test. He sets each of them a challenge that will force them to explore beyond their safe boundaries. The end results are hilarious and at times painful.

George White employs a range of theatrical genres to tell this tale including song and dance, mime and puppetry. It's a play every young man - and his partner - should see.

Warning: male nudity may excite!

HELENE GOWERS BALLET SCHOOL
Saturdays 9am to 2pm

Whether ballet is studied for health, pleasure or as a future career, enrolling in Helene Gowers Ballet School can be life changing.

"Classical ballet lays the foundation for professional dancers, including the best jazz dancers," says principal Helene Gowers. "Regardless of age it also provides the discipline required for many of life's other pursuits. "Whether ballet is studied for health, pleasure or as a future career, its benefits are numerous."

The school's aim is to encourage the pleasure of classical dance throughout the community regardless of age.

Classes cater for children as young as 3 to adults and to all skill levels. There are a variety of classes designed for recreational dances and for the Cecchetti exam syllabus.

The competitive tuition fees and inexpensive costuming reflect the school's community mindedness.
